Client Stories
The good, bad, and ridiculous moments that happen when clients step into the mixβwild last-minute requests, mystery "feedback from the top", sudden scope flips, budget freezes, and the rare times a client surprise-saves the day.
Had a client meeting today where they literally said "We want the website, the app, the branding, and the marketing campaign. But we're a startup, so we can't really pay much." When I asked what their budget was, they said "exposure and experience." I wanted to say "My landlord doesn't accept exposure as payment," but instead I just smiled and said we'd get back to them. Sometimes I wonder if clients think we survive on air and good vibes.

During a presentation yesterday, I accidentally said the client's new logo looked like a "very professional potato." There was a long, awkward silence that felt like it lasted for eternity. My boss just stared at me with that "you're fired" look. But then something amazing happened - the client burst out laughing and said it was the most honest feedback they'd ever received. They're now calling themselves the "Potato Pros" and want to lean into the potato theme. I think I accidentally got a promotion out of this.
